New Review on storybords

we did these storyboords as a guide line for our shoot day. but on the day some of the shots where completely different to what we had planned. this is because on the day it there set changed and we had to deal with what we had.

We chose these props because they represent the typical sterotype of the a suicide bomber . The other props were picked to help us create tension for our thriller. We chose props which we didnt use as the idea changed half way through planning so some of the props chosen have been changed.

We have now come up with a name and logo for out thriller, we created this by the use of photoshop, however before coming up with the name we had to research a varies of names for the title, by doing this we then came up with 'Dark puddle productions'.

Treatment

Treatment
For our sequence we decided to go on the idea of a mental illness. We chose OCD as we thought that it brought an interesting view on a thriller. There are two people in our sequence. One of them is a man in his room in a clinic who suffers from the mental illness OCD. The other character is a Nurse who works at the clinic who occasionally treats the patient. The whole sequence takes place in the clinic. The general idea is that the patient at the clinic is trying to kill himself in a very OCD like manor. For example he is very precise with the electrocution kit he is using to kill himself. The man will measure out wires and cut them to perfection. While this is happening the nurse will be walking down the corridor. The tension is created by the suspense of weather the nurse will save the patient or not. We would do this by building a set in the TV studio of the mans room and filming a corridor which the Nurse will walk down. Are location for the man’s bedroom will be a set in the TV studio, and we will use one of the corridors in a house for the Nurse to walk down.Our sequence generates tension by the man setting up his death and seeing if the Nurse will save him in time.

This is the room of which we will be shooting in, prior to shooting we felt it was a good idea to arrange the way the room would be set out and how things were going to lookBy doing this we then were able to prepare a floor plan to assist us on aciding upon different camera positions & where things would be shot, and we were then able to plan our location set properly.

target audience

The target audience we have chosen is 15 and above. The social class is middle class we chose this because it has a complecated story line. It is mainly aimed at the male gender because it is rather graphic and the male sterotype likes a graphic movie.

In order to help us develop our initial idea we consulted a range of existing texts in order to observe their use of camera, sound, lighting, music, atmosphere , narrative ideas , casting etc...OCD-The main idea for our sequence is based on OCD, therefore I looked on google, and researched the facts and sources.We found that these are the symtoms --Thoughts, images, or impulses that occur over and over again and feel out of the person's control.-The person does not want to have these ideas.-He or she finds them disturbing and unwanted, and usually know that they don't make sense.-They come with uncomfortable feelings, such as fear, disgust, doubt, or a feeling that things have to be done in a way that is "just right."-They take a lot of time and get in the way of important activities the person values.We related the treatment issues of why he is in the clinic to how people really get treated for OCD.Getting professional help is the best way to deal with OCD. Treatment can help you to gain control over your obsessions and to stop carrying out compulsions. Treatment may include psychological treatments, medicines or a combination of these.

Initial production group meeting & discussion of draft idea

Our initial idea discussed the possibility of a narative that ivolved around the concept of a child killer. Specific images that were discussed included.

- lady behind bars( in prison)
- Child behind cot bars
- Child and knife
- blood scene with child ontop of parents
- parents both killed

These initial images/concepts were discussed in order to begin to build a basic frame work upon which to base the idea/concepts. This was very much a draft concept that required significant extra work before being able to begin planning and storyboarding etc. However the idea it was important to make it look orthentic and employed the conventions of the genre(generating suspense towards the audience)

Account of giving presentations for possible thriller ideas

we were set to prepare a presentation on what we thought would be a good thriller idea. my idea was based on a ghost who lives in this old house. the house was bought by a family which involved a mother and a little daughter. the mother started to rearrange the furniture the furniture but the olg ghost didnt like this so he moved the furniture back and later he killed the mother because he didnt like the changes and then the little daughter couldnt stay alive and then the little daughter died.

Synopsys

The film is set in contemarpy times. My Story contains two main protagonists, a teenage girl, sophie, aged 13, and a mentally ill man Durrenka, Who lives within the assylem where Sophies mother works. The Story dipicts the growth in the relationship between the two main protagonist who are united by the mother's proffesion. Sophies relationship develops with Durrenka over a series of events until Sophie sees him as best freind. Sophie returns to Durrenka out of pure curiosity and lonelyness due to her lack of friends. In Conclusion, Sophie's death is caused by Durrenka believing he is giving sophie love, when infact he ends up smothering her to death.

Thriller

The definition of a thriller is a type of genre which included lots of sub genres. A thriller is a Meta genre. The thriller relies on intricacy of plot to create fear, apprehension and suspense in the hearts and minds of the audience. There are many different sub genres for example crime thriller, action thriller (the transporter), spy thriller( the lives of others), conspiracy thriller, Eco-thriller, medical thrillers etc.







In a thriller it is meant to thrill and build tension leaving the audience in suspense it is meant to be fast moving and frequent action. A Thriller is meant to cause discomfort and be able to Pierce the audience comfort zone. The audience also needs to experience a sense of ambivalence.

Final cut pro

Final cut pro is a software package we run it on G5 macs. This is a non linear editing package. Final cut pro is a time line based piece of softwear. we learned how to use final cut pro we learned all about the final cut server. this is a system that allows your project to be checked in and out to a separate server this is a safety system so it is hard to loose work if a server goes down. this is a safe and reliable way of not loosing work. After we learned all about the final cut server we logged all our rushes. this mean logging our filmed material. then we selected the best of our shots and marking an in point and out point. we placed all our shots in chronological order on the time line. then we trimmed and cut them to create the illusion of simultaneous event.

Prelim task evalutation

The location we where give was a classroom this was a good location for what we wanted to to shoot. this location worked for us as we needed a desk and a hard uncomfortable chair the room was dark and there was only one light on which created a nice dark room which was perfect for our recording. my role was being the male actor in the shoot this was good because we have all worked together and we all knew what we wanted and it made it run smoother instead of bringing others in. the lighting effect we had was going was half our shot was in light and it faded out and this made a more dramatic in put on the scene.

Introduction to blogs

We had a short introduction to blogger. This involved of use getting to grip with how to create a wall post and how to add an image on to it. Firstly we began by writing a little introduction about ourselves and then we started to add photo’s of friends out of school. We also where told to change the back ground of our wall to make it unique. In the first lesson we where given a couple of minutes to look around the website and see what other people have done in the past. I like using my blog because it shows what I have been up to and is open to most people to view.

Introduction to the studio

We worked in the studio. It was based on a interview for t4. We had one camera which was centred with both subjects in focus. The lighting set was that we had three lights out and they were based in front of the subjects one had a blue filter on it which toned down the strength of the white light. The two subject where angled in to face each other. We had to try and minimalism head spaces because this draws the attention away from the people interviewing. This was good practise to under stand how to film in a studio environment. It has to be silent when the camera is rolling and after you have to turn of the lights other wise the subjects will get really hot as the light give out a lot of heat

Introduction to camera and tripod

Our first lesson using the PD170 video cameras was full of information. We where told to construct the cartoni delta tripod. This involved getting it out of the travel bag and pulls the legs apart. Then we where told to get the PD170 out of the box and mount it on the cartoni delta tripod. We where shown how to fix the battery onto the camera. We where shown how to bubble the tripod this consisted of loosening the nut under the mounting block and you would movie it until the split-levels bubble was in the middle this shows that the camera was level. Then we where told how to change the settings on the camera for different types of light.

Introduction to Photoshop

In our first Photoshop lesson we look at all the basics for example what the tools did to an image. We then where told to take some still camera shots in groups. After doing this task we loaded them up and played around with the tools to make new image for example liquefying the image so it looks like it has running of the page. We were told to make a movie poster in Photoshop. I used the dodge to make the image have no facial features apart form his eyes and mouth. I enjoyed using Photoshop as it is a useful to make posters.

This is a action shot of me posting a letter. the shot is taken from eye level. it is located out side the main house at school. it is natural light that we have use. My head is in the first hotspot and the subject the post box is in the fourth hotspot. this show is a wide shot/ mid shot.

i am doing media at hurtwood house. i love doing media because of all the practical things that we do. my favorite part of media is to film and make movies. movies that i like are comedy my favorite movie at the moment is no reservation because i love cooking. i listen to all types of music don't really have a favorite band. my favorite TV program is Top Gear because i am a petrol head and love cars.i like documentaries because they are very factual but at the same time you learn about animals and other interesting things you might not have known. i like playing PS3 my favorite game is Tiger Woods 10 this is very realistic and it changes the weather due to the Internet so if it is raining where you are playing it will be raining on the game
